If the stain is recent, you don’t need to worry too much. In fact, pre-treating and spot-cleaning may be enough to get the job done. To start, run cold water over the back of the fabric to encourage the blood to move away from skirt’s fibers. Then, mix a tiny amount of laundry detergent with cold water and use it to pre-treat the affected area.
Once the pre-treatment is done, machine-wash the skirt on the delicate cycle. Allow the garment to air-dry and then check to see if the stain is still there; if so, repeat process. It may take several attempts to fully get the blood out, but be patient and it will eventually come clean.
For set-in blood stains, you’ll need to take a bit more time. Begin by saturating the area with cold water and making sure the fibers are sufficiently wet. Then, make a paste using one tablespoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of warm water. Apply the paste to the stain and use an old toothbrush to work it into fabric. Remove the paste and rinse area.
If stain isn’t completely gone, mix one tablespoon of ammonia with one cup of cool water and apply it to the stained area. Allow it to sit for five minutes and then rinse with cold water. Afterward, launder the clothing item as usual. For extra insurance, you can add some white vinegar to the wash cycle.
Though stubborn blood stains can be a real pain to remove, it’s not impossible. With the right cleaning tools and a bit of patience, you should be able to conquer that pesky stain and restore your pencil skirt’s pristine condition. Good luck!
