The very first step when it comes to cleaning any type of shoe is to remove the laces and insoles. Place these aside while you work on the rest of the shoe. When you’re ready, use a cloth or cotton swab to blot the stained area as much as possible. This will help to remove some of the excess liquid and will also prevent stain from spreading.
Once you have blotted the area, try dampening a cloth with a mixture of warm water and a delicate detergent. Gently apply the cloth to the stain, avoiding rubbing or scrubbing. This will help to lift the stain from the surface of leather. Change the water in your cloth regularly to ensure the detergent does not leave residues or get too concentrated.
Once stain has been removed you can move on to the drying step. Make sure you pat the shoe dry rather than rubbing it vigorously. You can then use a soft cloth or paper towel to buff shoe, if desired. This will help to give your Oxfords a polished, finished look.
Finally, inspect the Oxfords once they have been cleaned and dried. If the stain was particularly stubborn, this may require you to take additional steps such as applying a leather conditioner. This will help to keep the leather looking healthy and free from damage.
