Steps to Remove Bloodstains from Masks
- Inspect the reverse side of the fabric to find any remaining stains. Be sure to wear gloves while handling the stained material.
- Mix three parts water to one part laundry detergent in a bowl. Dip an old toothbrush into the soapy solution and apply it to the stain. Rub the bristles in a circular motion.
- Once the stain is gone, rinse the toothbrush under cold water. Blot the damp area with a clean cloth to remove the remaining suds.
- Prepare a mixture of one cup of hot water plus one-half cup of vinegar. Place a clean cloth in solution and wring it well.
- Hold the damp cloth against the stain for at least five minutes.
- Use a clean white cloth and the same vinegar solution to scrub the remaining stain until it's completely gone. Rinse the cloth in cold water and blot dry.
- Allow mask to air dry or tumble dry on low heat. For white masks, you can also add a few drops of bleach during the washing process.
Tips for Removing Bloodstains from Masks
- When applying detergent and the vinegar solution, be sure to work from outside of the stain toward the center. This will help to avoid further spreading stain.
- After washing and drying the mask, inspect it to make sure the stain has been completely removed. If not, repeat the cleaning steps.
- If you don't have access to laundry detergent or vinegar, research alternative solutions such as household ammonia.
