The key to removing any type of stain is to act quickly. Blood stains can be particularly tricky to remove if they have been allowed to dry and set into the fabric of your shirt. To avoid this, you should start by treating stained area with cold water right away.

If the stain is still present after washing with cold water, mix together a solution of one part dishwashing liquid and two parts cold water. Soak the stained area in the solution for fifteen minutes. Then use a soft bristled brush to rub the stain gently in circles. The motion should help work the solution further into the fabric and lift the stain from the material.

If this does not work, try soaking stained area in ammonia solution. Mix one tablespoon of clear household ammonia with one cup of warm water. Soak stained area in the solution for up to fifteen minutes. Then rinse the area thoroughly with cold water. If the stain persists, repeat the process.

For tough stains, mix together one part hydrogen peroxide and one part dishwashing detergent. Gently blot the stained area with a cloth dipped in the solution. Allow the solution to sit on stain for five minutes. Then rinse the area with cold water. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.

No matter what method you choose, be sure to always test the cleaning solution on a hidden seam or inside collar of shirt. This will ensure that the solution will not damage the fabric of your shirt. It is also important to never put the shirt in the dryer until you are sure the stain is gone.
