Start by blotting up as much of the blood as you can with a white towel. It's important to avoid using colored towels or fabrics, as they may transfer the color onto your gingham. Blot gently, pressing down on the spot to absorb the blood without pushing it further into the fabric.
Once you've blotted up as much as you can, rinse stained area with cold water to dilute the stain. Don't use hot water, as this will cause the blood to set and become more difficult to remove.
Next, sprinkle the stain with cornstarch or talcum powder. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes so it can absorb the remaining blood. Brush off powder gently.
Now, mix a solution of one part white vinegar and one part cold water. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and dab at the stain. Rinse the area with cold water and repeat if necessary.
Once the vinegar has been applied, it's time to use laundry detergent. Mix a solution of one tablespoon of laundry detergent in two cups of cold water. Soak a cloth in the solution and dab at the stain. Rinse the area with cold water until the detergent is gone.
Finally, apply rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth or cotton ball and dab at the stain. Make sure not to rub too hard, as this may cause the gingham to fray. Rinse with cold water and repeat if necessary.
Once you've finished treating the stain, allow the gingham fabric to air dry. Once it's dry, inspect the area for any lingering stains. If stain is still visible, repeat the previous steps until the stain is gone.
