What You Will Need

  • Cold water
  • Glycerin
  • Salt (or a blood-removing detergent)
  • Cotton balls
  • White vinegar
  • Lemon juice
  • Toothbrush

Instructions for Removing Blood Stains from Formalwear

  1. If possible, soak the affected clothing item in cold water for three to five minutes before attempting to treat the stain.
  2. Mix one part glycerin with two parts water. Rub this mixture into the stain using a cotton ball. This will help to break down the proteins in blood, making them easier to remove.
  3. Mix one part salt (or specialized detergent) with four parts water. Blot this solution onto the stained area using a cotton ball. Allow solution to sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
  4. Blot the stain with a cotton ball soaked in white vinegar. The vinegar helps to break down proteins and neutralize odors caused by blood stain.
  5. Mix one part lemon juice with two parts water and blot onto the stained area with a cotton ball. This will help to loosen any remaining proteins in blood.
  6. Using a toothbrush, gently scrub away any remaining residue from stained area. Make sure not to be too firm with brush, as you don’t want to damage the fabric.
  7. Rinse the item of clothing with cold water and dry according to the cleaning instructions on the tag.

Conclusion

By following these simple steps, you’ll be able to effectively remove blood stains from your formalwear. However, if the stain is particularly stubborn, you may want to take the item to a professional dry cleaner for further treatment.
