Gathering Supplies

Before you start cleaning, it is essential to gather all supplies that you need. These include:

  • Cold Water
  • Liquid Detergent or Mild Soap
  • Cleaning Cloth
  • Hydrogen Peroxide (optional)

Removing the Stain

The first step is to soak a cloth in cold water and use it to gently dab the stain. Be careful not to rub it as this can push the spill further into the fabric. Next, you want to create a cleaning solution using some liquid detergent or mild soap and cold water. Apply solution to your cloth, then lightly rub it onto the stain. This should lift away much of the dirt.

If you’re still having trouble, try dabbing some hydrogen peroxide onto the stain. Leave it for 15-20 minutes and see if stain lifts. If not, repeat the process.

Rinsing Fabric

Once the stain has been removed, it’s important to rinse away any remaining traces of detergent or hydrogen peroxide. To do this, use a cloth soaked with cold water and apply it to the affected area. This should remove any residue from the cleaning solutions. Finally, hang dry the dashiki in a well-ventilated area to eliminate any odors.

Preventing Future Stains

Nobody wants to deal with a stained garment, again. One way to avoid this is to protect your dashiki with a fabric protector. This will help repel dirt and grime, making it easier to clean up any unexpected spills.
