If the blood stain is still fresh, you'll want to act quickly to get it out. Use wipes to dab lightly at the stain, or apply a pre-treatment spray. Then, launder your coat in cold water with detergent.
For dried blood stains, you will need to first use a brush or an old toothbrush to gently remove the excess dried material. Then, you can use a mixture of water and detergent to apply to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. Launder the coat afterward in cold water.
Prevention is also key when it comes to keeping your coat clean. If you anticipate that you are going to be around anything that may cause a bloodstain, such as a pet, try to wear lighter colored clothes whenever possible. Additionally, you should always carry wipes and a stain remover solution in your purse or bag for any accidents.
