Step 1: Blot the Stain

Gently blot the stained area with a dry white cloth or paper towel to remove as much excess blood as possible. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the lace, as that may damage fibers.

Step 2: Pretreat with Liquid Detergent

Mix a small amount of liquid detergent with warm water, and using a soft-bristled brush or sponge, apply it to the stained area and gently rub. Rinse lace thoroughly with cold water, and repeat if necessary until the stain has disappeared.

Step 3: Wash the Fabric

Soak the stained portion of lace in cold water, then machine-wash it on a gentle cycle or hand-wash it with a mild detergent. Don't forget to rinse the fabric completely.

Step 4: Air-Dry and Iron

Air-dry the lace, making sure not to place it in direct sunlight, which may cause discoloration. Once fabric is completely dry, use a warm iron to press the area where the stain was. This should remove any remaining traces or discoloration.

Tips for Success

  • Always test the detergent on a small piece of the same fabric before applying to the stain.
  • Never use hot water when treating delicate fabrics like Chantilly lace.
  • Avoid adding bleach or other harsh chemicals to fabric, as they may damage the fibers.
  • If you do use bleach, dilute it with cold water before applying to the fabric.
