As soon as you notice a fresh bloodstain on your chambray, take immediate action. Start by dabbing the area with a cloth lightly dampened with cold water. Don't rub the spot, which can force stain further into the fabric fibers. Instead, gently blot the area and repeat until spot is no longer visible.
Once you've removed the excess blood, if any remains, create a cleaning solution with ¼ teaspoon of mild detergent and 12 ounces of room temperature water. Dip a cloth in the solution and apply it to stained area for about 15 minutes. Rinse chambray with cold water afterwards, then examine the fabric to determine if the stain has been totally removed.
If the stain persists, try applying an ammonia solution, which can be made by mixing one tablespoon of clear household ammonia with ½ cup of lukewarm water. Put this solution into a clean spray bottle, then spritz the affected area lightly. Rub the solution into the fabric with a damp cloth, then rinse with cold water. Check to see if further treatment is necessary.
This method works better on older or tougher stains, as hydrogen peroxide can discolor fabrics. To make cleaning solution, mix one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide and two tablespoons of warm water. With the cloth dipped in the solution, blot the area repeatedly until all of the stain is gone. Rinse with cold water and allow to air dry.
