The first step to removing a blood stain is to blot it with a clean cloth or paper towel. Use firm pressure to lift the stain away. Do not rub or scrub, as this may cause the stain to spread further.
Next, pretreat the stain with a product specifically designed to break down and lift out blood stains. Apply the product directly onto the stain and leave it for five minutes before blotting area again with a clean cloth or paper towel.
After the stain has been pretreated and blotted away, it's time to wash cardigan. Select gentlest cycle on your washing machine and use cold water. Make sure to add a mild detergent and check the label of your cardigan to be sure it can be washed in a machine.
Before putting the cardigan into the dryer, check to make sure the stain is gone. If it is still visible, repeat steps 1-3. If stain is gone, tumble dry the cardigan on a low setting.
To freshen the cardigan after washing, hang it in a well-ventilated area and sprinkle with baking soda. The baking soda will help remove any odors from the garment and keep it smelling fresh.
Removing blood stains from cardigans can be a tricky business. Luckily, with the right approach and some patience, it's possible to restore your favorite cardigan to its former glory.
