Step 1: Soak in Detergent Solution

Fill a large bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild detergent. Submerge stained area of the Battenberg lace into solution and let it soak for about 30 minutes.

Step 2: Scrub With an Old Toothbrush

After soaking the Battenberg lace in the detergent solution, use an old toothbrush to scrub the stained area. Gently brush away dirt and residue, taking care to not damage the delicate fabric.

Step 3: Rinse With Water and Vinegar

Once you’ve scrubbed away the blood stains, fill a fresh bowl with warm water and add a few tablespoons of white vinegar. Submerge the Battenberg lace in the solution and let it soak for about 15 minutes. This will help to neutralize any odors and freshen the fabric.

Step 4: Hang to Dry

Once the Battenberg lace has soaked in the vinegar solution, remove it from the bowl and gently blot away any excess liquid with a clean cloth. Hang the lace in a well-ventilated area to dry, or place it on a flat surface to air dry.
