No matter how careful you are in the kitchen, accidents happen. It’s just a fact. And unfortunately, blood stains on your apron can be a consequence of a careless cut or accident. But don’t panic! Removing blood stains from fabric doesn’t have to be a daunting task.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

Your first step is to blot the stain with a paper towel or clean cloth. Try not to rub, as this can make the stain worse. Be sure to use a paper towel or light-colored cloth, so that no dye is transferred onto the material. If the stain is particularly stubborn, try using hot water and baking soda paste to help lift it off.

Step 2: Apply a Stain Remover

Next, apply a spot-cleaning product to the area. There are several commercially available stain removers, but if you’re looking for a more natural option, try creating a paste with equal parts hydrogen peroxide and liquid dish detergent. If you choose to buy a commercial product, be sure to check the labels to ensure that it’s safe to use on the material of your apron.

Step 3: Launder the Item

Once you’ve applied stain remover, let it sit for a few minutes before laundering item. Be sure to check care label for details about how to launder your apron. When laundering, use cold water and a gentle cycle. You may want to add a cup of baking soda to the load to help loosen any remaining stains.

Step 4: Air Dry the Item

Once the item is laundered and clean, be sure to allow it to air dry. Do not put the item into dryer, as heat can set the stain, making it impossible to remove.
