The most important thing when dealing with any kind of stain is to act quickly. The faster you act, the better the chances of removing the stain. Take a paper towel or washcloth and blot the stain to absorb as much of the blood as possible. Do not rub the fabric, as this may cause the stain to spread.
Once you have blotted the stain, fill a basin with cold water and add a few drops of mild liquid detergent. Place the item of clothing in the water and let it soak for up to an hour. This will help loosen the stain and make it easier to remove.
After soaking the item of clothing, apply a stain remover as instructed on the package. Allow the product to sit for 15 minutes before continuing.
Rinse the item of clothing with cold water. Do not use hot water as this may set the stain.
Using your regular laundry detergent, wash the item of clothing in hot water. This will help to further remove the stain.
Before drying the item of clothing, check to see if the stain has been removed. If it has not, repeat steps 2-5 until the stain is gone.
Once the stain is removed, air dry the item of clothing. Do not put it in the dryer as the heat may set the stain.
Once the item of clothing is dry, inspect it to make sure the stain is completely gone.
If there is still a faint stain, apply a stain remover and re-launder the item of clothing.
To ensure that the stain is completely removed, wash the item of clothing one more time in a normal cycle with your regular laundry detergent.
