For clothing and fabric accessories such as a hat, scarf, or bag, you’ll need to act quickly to ensure the stain doesn’t fully dry. First, rinse the fabric with cold water and blot it with a cloth to remove any excess blood.
Next, make a mixture of ½ teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Use this mixture to gently blot stained area until it starts to fade. Avoid rubbing the fabric as this could cause the stain to spread.
Once the stain has lightened, rinse the fabric with cold water again. Finally, launder the item as normal and check for any remaining stains before drying.
When it comes to leather items, you’ll need to be careful not to damage the material while treating the blood stain. To begin, wipe away any excess blood with a damp cloth.
Mix together equal parts cool water and rubbing alcohol. Dip a second cloth in solution, then lightly dab stained area with it. Do not scrub the spot or apply a large amount of pressure.
Continue dabbing the stained area until it starts to lighten. Once it fades away, use a dry cloth to wipe away any remaining liquid. Then you can use a leather conditioner to help keep the material soft and supple.
If your accessory is made of a hard surface such metal, wood, or plastic, you might be able to use a paste made of baking soda and cold water to remove the stain. Apply paste directly to the stained area and let it sit for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, wipe away the paste with a damp cloth and check for signs of the blood.
You can also try using a small amount of hydrogen peroxide on the stain. Pour hydrogen peroxide onto a third cloth and lightly dab the area. Continue dabbing with the cloth until begin to fade away. Finish by wiping the surface with a damp cloth.
