Say Goodbye to Berry Stains on Your Workwear

Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries – there are so many delicious ways to enjoy berries! But when a berry falls from your plate and lands on your work shirt, you don't have to panic. Here's how to clean berry stains from your workwear and spruce it up for the next meeting.

Step 1: Blot the Stain with a Clean Cloth or Paper Towel

If possible, start by gently blotting away excess berry juice with a clean cloth or paper towel. Don’t rub the cloth back and forth — this will only spread the stain further, making it harder to remove. Instead, press the cloth onto the stained area and hold it in place for several seconds.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain with a Stain Remover

Once excess berry juice is gone, it’s time to move onto stain removal. To do this, grab a commercial stain remover and follow the instructions on the bottle to pre-treat fabric. If you don’t have a store-bought stain remover, you can make one at home. Mix equal parts dish liquid and white vinegar together and pour the mixture onto the affected area. Gently massage the fabric to spread the solution, then let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it in cold water.

Step 3: Put Garment in the Washing Machine

Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, it’s time to wash the garment. Before doing so, check the fabric label to determine the best washing machine setting. The temperature should match the temperature of the pre-treatment (cold if you used a homemade mixture, warm if you used a store-bought one). Then, toss garment into the washing machine with a scoop of laundry detergent and let it go through a wash cycle.

Step 4: Dry Garment in the Dryer

When the wash cycle is done, throw the garment in the dryer. Again, check the fabric label to determine the best drying temperature, then let it go through an entire drying cycle. When it’s finished, check fabric to ensure the stain is gone. If it isn’t, repeat steps 2 and 3 — you might have to do this more than once, but eventually the stain should come out!

Step 5: Enjoy Your Stain-Free Workwear

Congratulations! You’ve just removed a pesky berry stain from your workwear. Once garment is dried and the stain is gone, enjoy wearing it to your next meeting. And next time a berry falls on your shirt, you’ll know exactly how to clean it up.
