If you’ve got berry stains on your trench coat, first thing to do is to locate the stains and then remove any excess berry residue with a spoon or a blunt knife. Once you’ve done that, you can start the cleaning process.

For Non-Delicate Fabrics

For tougher fabrics like cotton, denim and wool, you can start by dabbing the stain with a cloth or sponge that has been dampened with a mixture of warm water and a mild detergent (or dish soap). Rub the damp cloth against the stain gently to loosen up the dirt and berry residue. Then use a clean cloth and cold water to rinse the stain away. For tougher stains, you may need to repeat this process.

For Delicate Fabrics

If your trench coat is made from delicate fabrics such as silk, velvet or satin, you’ll need a gentler approach. Start by dabbing the stain with a damp cloth (use warm water rather than cold). Next, mix a teaspoon of white vinegar with a teaspoon of dish soap and apply it directly to stain. Gently rub the mixture into the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Finally, rinse the area with a damp cloth and cold water.

Drying Your Trench Coat

Once you’ve finished cleaning the stain, you should hang your trench coat in a well-ventilated area to air dry. Avoid direct sunlight as this could cause fading over time. If you need to dry your trench coat quickly, you can use a handheld hairdryer set on the cool air setting.

Regular care and maintenance

To keep your trench coat looking its best, it’s important to take good care of it. After each wear, brush away any dirt and dust with a soft brush. It’s also a good idea to hang your trench coat on a wide hanger when you’re not wearing it to avoid any creasing or sagging.
