When it comes to stains, berries can be one of the most challenging. The deep color and unique mix of sugars, acids and other elements makes them difficult to remove without causing damage to the fabric they're on. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to rid your skirts of these stubborn stains and have them looking new again.
If you have berry stains on your skirts, react quickly. Time is of the essence when it comes to removing these types of stains because they can set in quickly and cause irreversible damage if left untreated. Start by gently dabbing the stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of the berry juice as possible before tackling the stain.
The next step is to pre-treat stained area. Try a commercial pre-treating spray or make your own solution with a 1:1 mixture of dishwashing liquid and white vinegar. Apply your pre-treating solution directly on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before beginning to scrub. Be sure to use a soft brush to avoid damaging the fabric.
Once you've pre-treated the stain, it's time to wash. Use a mild detergent, lukewarm water and gentle cycle to properly wash your skirts. Don't forget to check the label of your skirt first to ensure that the fabric is machine-washable and to determine the proper settings.
Once the washing part is complete, leave your skirt to air dry completely. Before storing away your garment, check stained area for any remaining residue. If needed, repeat steps 2 and 3 until all traces of stain are gone.
