Silk dupioni is a luxurious fabric often used to create gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and other special occasion garments. Produced by weaving two silk threads together, silk dupioni has a unique crispness and crinkled texture that sets it apart from other fabrics. Unfortunately, its delicate nature also makes it vulnerable to staining.
Berry juice and stains can wreak havoc on a silk dupioni garment if left untreated. The key to learning how to clean berry stains from silk dupioni is taking decisive action quickly. Here’s what you need to do.
Begin by blotting up as much of the berry stain as possible with an absorbent cloth. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area as this will just spread the stain and make the problem worse.
Mix together equal parts lemon juice and salt to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to the stained area and leave it for five minutes before brushing off.
Once you’ve brushed off paste, rinse the area with cool water. Make sure to avoid using hot water, as this will only set the stain.
Finally, let garment air dry. Do not put it in dryer, as this could potentially cause the stain to set and become permanent.
