Before getting started, make sure you test an inconspicuous spot on the fabric to check for any potential damage. Then, begin the cleaning process.

Step 1: Remove Excess Berries and Blot the Fabric Dry

Using a clean paper towel or cloth, gently remove any excess berries from the fabric. Keep in mind that rubbing fabric may cause the stain to spread, so take care as you’re blotting. Once the excess is removed, allow the fabric to air dry.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain with Soap Solution

Once fabric is dry, create a mild solution of water and a gentle soap (like baby soap or dish soap). Rub solution into the stained area and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse and Launder

After fabric has been pre-treated, rinse the stained area with cold water. Finally, place the fabric in a washing machine and use a gentle cycle, cold water, and a mild detergent.

Step 4: Air Dry and Inspect

Once washed, air dry the fabric and inspect for remaining stain spots. If there are any remaining spots, repeat steps two and three.

And that’s how you can tackle those pesky berry stains on your cotton gingham!
