Carrickmacross lace is a beautiful, traditional form of needle lace originating in Ireland. It is delicate, intricate and stunning when in pristine condition. Unfortunately, mucky berry stains can be a real annoyance and can easily ruin the look of a Carrickmacross lace piece.

Materials You'll Need

  • Gentle, non-abrasive detergent (such as Woolite)
  • Mild shampoo
  • Soft, white cloth
  • Butter knife
  • Toothbrush
  • Damp cloth

1. Scrape Away Any Excess

Use a butter knife to scrape away any excess berry juices from the Carrickmacross lace fabric. Be sure to scrape carefully and gently so as not to damage delicate material.

2. Soak in Detergent

Fill a basin or bowl with warm water and add a few drops of gentle detergent. Gently submerge the stained fabric in the mixture and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Make sure that the material is completely covered with water.

3. Brush Away Stains with Toothbrush

After the material has soaked, use a soft-bristled toothbrush to brush away any remaining stains. Make sure you are very gentle and don’t brush too hard so as to not damage the delicate material.

4. Rinse with Mild Shampoo

Rinse the material in a basin of warm water mixed with a drop of mild shampoo. Swish the fabric around the water so all areas get properly cleaned.

5. Dry with Soft Cloth

Gently squeeze out any excess water and lay material on a clean, dry towel. Use another soft, white cloth to pat the fabric dry.

And there you have it! Your Carrickmacross lace is now free from berry stains and looking gorgeous again!
