Before you start, make sure you have the right supplies to remove stains. You'll need laundry detergent, white vinegar, a spray bottle, and a soft cloth for scrubbing. You may also want to have hydrogen peroxide on hand to help remove stubborn stains.
When it comes to getting rid of berry stains, time is of essence. The quicker you treat the stain, the better your chances of getting it out. So, as soon as you notice a stain, take the item off and treat it.
Take a squirt or two of laundry detergent and mix it with a little bit of water. Use a cloth to apply the mixture directly to the stain. Gently rub the cloth to work the detergent into the fabric. Let the detergent sit for a few minutes before rinsing it away with cold water.
If stain persists, add white vinegar to the mix. Mix some white vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray it directly on the stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a soft cloth. Rinse the area with cold water once you're done.
For really stubborn stains, try using hydrogen peroxide. Put a dab directly on the stain, then let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a soft cloth. Hydrogen peroxide can be powerful, so be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot first.
If the stain still isn't coming out, try reapplying the detergent, vinegar, and/or hydrogen peroxide mixture. In some cases, it may take a few tries to finally remove the stain.
Finally, make sure you handle the stain with care. Be gentle when scrubbing, and never use hot water or a harsh scrub brush as this might make the stain worse. With a little elbow grease and right supplies, you should be able to get those pesky berry stains out of your button down shirt in no time.
