If you happen to catch a berry stain while it's still wet, you're in luck. Start by rinsing the stained area under cold running water for a few minutes to rinse off as much of the berry residue as possible. Then, try sponging the stain with some rubbing alcohol (not straight from the bottle, of course!). This will help lift the berry juice off of the fabric without damaging the material.
If the berry has dried before you were able to treat it, you'll need some additional supplies. Begin by applying some laundry detergent directly onto the stain, and then scrub gently with an old toothbrush. This should help lift the stain and residual berry particles out of the fabric. Once the stain has been loosened, remove any remaining residue with a damp cloth.
For particularly stubborn berry stains, you might need a two-pronged attack. Begin with dry treatment described above, and then move onto the wet treatment. Here, soak the stained area in rubbing alcohol and then rinse it with cool water. For an extra boost, you can also add some baking soda to rubbing alcohol solution, as this will help break down the berry pigment. Finally, pop the garment in the washing machine on a delicate setting, and your clothing should be back to normal in no time.
Whenever possible, it's a good idea to avoid using hot water or harsh chemicals when dealing with berry stains. Both of these can cause permanent damage to fabric, so it's best to stick with only gentle cleaning materials. And, as always, make sure to check manufacturer's care label before attempting any at-home stain removal treatments.
