Pre-Treating with Detergent

The first step in tackling berry stains is to pre-treat them with detergent. Start by dampening the stained area with lukewarm water and then apply a liquid detergent that is designed for colors. Rub the detergent gently onto the stain and let it sit for around 10 minutes.

Wash with Color-Safe Bleach

Once the solution has been applied, it's time to toss your board shorts in the washing machine. Be sure to add a color-safe bleach to the cycle, as well as a detergent designed specifically for colors. Set the washing machine to its coldest setting and let it run until the cycle is complete.

Dry the Board Shorts to Check for Residue

When the shorts come out of the wash, check them for any remaining residue from the berry stain. If needed, you can use a stain remover product before drying them. Once everything is dry, inspect the shorts one last time to make sure the stain is completely gone.
