If the stain is fresh, take a cloth or paper towel and gently blot up any moisture or excess berry juice. Then, grab a bowl and mix a solution of 1 teaspoon clear dishwashing detergent and one cup of warm water. Take a clean cloth and dip it into the mixture, then wring it out until it’s damp. Blot the stain with the damp cloth and work in circular motions, using a light touch.
Continue blotting until the stain is no longer visible. If necessary, apply more detergent solution and repeat the process.
If the berry stain has set in for a few days, you’ll need to take extra steps to remove it. First, mix a solution of 1 tablespoon white vinegar and one cup water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and blot the stain. Again, work in circular motions using a light touch.
Continue blotting until the stain is removed. For stubborn stains, you may need to apply a few drops of ammonia to the solution. Make sure to test the solution on an inconspicuous area of the rug first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.
Once the stain is gone, continue blotting the area with clean water to rinse away any residue. Finally, place a few layers of paper towels on the spot and weigh them down with a heavy object. This will absorb any remaining moisture and help speed up the drying process.
