Things You'll Need:

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Laundry detergent
  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • Stain remover
  • Borax
  • Toothbrush

Step 1: Blot the Excess Sauce

Using a dry paper towel or cloth, gently blot the excess barbecue sauce off your fabric. Do not rub the stain, as this will drive it further into the material.

Step 2: Apply Dishwashing Liquid

Mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with warm water and use a clean cloth to apply it onto stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it with cool water.

Step 3: Soak in Water and Detergent

Mix two teaspoons of laundry detergent and cold water into a sink or container. Submerge the stained fabric in the mixture and let it soak for 15 minutes.

Step 4: Treat with White Vinegar

Mix one part water and one part white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth into the mix and dab it onto the stain. Let it set for 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Step 5: Use Stain Remover or Borax

Soak the fabric in a mixture of one cup of warm water and one teaspoon of either stain remover or borax. Let it soak for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

Step 6: Scrub Away the Stain

Take a toothbrush and lightly scrub the stained area to help loosen the residue. Rinse with lukewarm water and repeat the process until the stain is no longer visible.

Step 7: Wash in the Laundry Machine

Once the stain is gone, wash the fabric in the washing machine using cold water. For stubborn stains, use an enzyme-based laundry detergent to help break down the stain.

Step 8: Let it Air Dry

After washing, hang the fabric outside to air dry. Do not use dryer, as the heat can set the stain.
