Getting out a barbecue sauce stain can be tricky, especially when using fabrics such as cotton or linen that are not designed to repel liquid. Fortunately, there are numerous tried-and-true techniques for removing the troublesome spots quickly and easily.
If you see the stain happen, treat it immediately by blotting stain with a clean cloth or paper towel to absorb any excess sauce. Be sure not to rub the stain vigorously, as this can spread the mess further into the fabric.
If the stain was not caught right away, the next step is to try and dilute remaining stain. This can be done by spraying the area with a mix of half white vinegar and half cold water. Wait a few minutes for the mixture to soak into the fabric, then gently blot the stain with a damp cloth.
For tougher stains, apply a small amount of detergent directly onto stain and let it sit for five minutes, then rinse with cold water. You can also try soaking the stained garment in a solution of cold water and detergent for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.
Once stain has been removed, air dry the garment on a clothesline or drying rack. Avoid putting the clothing in a dryer, as this could set stain in fabric. If the stain remains after cleaning process, it is best to take garment to a professional cleaner.
With proper treatment, BBQ sauce stains can be eliminated from traditional clothing. By following steps outlined above, you can make sure that your garments remain stain-free and looking their best!
