Before you put your top in the washing machine, it is important to pre-treat the stained area with detergent or a cleaning agent of your choice. Make sure it is well rubbed into the fabric and allow it to sit for at least half an hour before washing.
When it comes to washing the top, you have two main options. You can either hand wash the top using warm water and a gentle detergent, or, for a more efficient solution, you can machine-wash the top. When machine-washing, choose a delicate cycle with a mild detergent.
If stain is really stubborn and has been there for a while, soak the top in white vinegar prior to washing. Let it soak for 30 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. By doing this, you can loosen the stubborn stain for easier removal.
Once you have finished washing the top, you can also use a stain remover or specialised product such as OxyClean to further treat any remaining traces of stain. Apply directly to stained area and make sure it is rubbed deep into fabric. Leave it to rest for a few minutes and then re-wash as normal.
To avoid further stain damage, it is important to avoid machine drying. Hang the top outside or near an open window and let air dry. Once dry, check the stain is completely gone and if necessary repeat any of the above steps.
