The ultimate key to removing BBQ sauce stains from ties is to act quickly. The longer a stain sets into fabric, the harder it is to remove. So don't waste any time- quickly grab a cloth dampened with cold water and dab at stain. Avoid rubbing the area as this could damage the fabric or spread the stain. Pat the spot but avoid scrubbing, this could cause the stain to set further into the fabric.
If the simple water dabbing is not enough to do the trick, you can try using a mild detergent or a stain remover specifically designed for removing grease or oil-based substances. Apply the product directly to the stain, being sure to avoid saturating the fabric. Let solution sit for 1-2 minutes and then gently rub the area with a soft cloth. Rinse area with cold water and repeat the process until the dye is removed.
If the stain has not been removed with steps 1 or 2, your best option is to launder the garment with an oxygen-based bleach alternative. Follow the instructions on the product or the instructions on the tie’s tag. Make sure you use a cool wash cycle and a gentle detergent, and avoid tumble drying. After washing, inspect results, and if the stain persists, repeat the process.
