When barbecue sauce gets onto clothing, it is important to act fast. Gently blot the area to absorb as much of the sauce as possible. Avoid scrubbing, which could spread the stain.
Create a pre-treatment using a few common household items. Start with a mixture of one tablespoon of detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda. Apply the solution directly to the stain and gently rub it in. Let it sit for about an hour before proceeding to the next step.
Once the treatment has had some time to work, it’s time to launder. Those with a washing machine should make sure to use cold water and set cycle to delicates or delicate rinse. For handwashing, use a mild detergent and gently work suds into the stained area.
To avoid any extra damage to the shirt, let it air dry. To speed up the process, lay the shirt flat on a dry towel to help pull out moisture. Once the shirt is completely dry, check to see if stain remains.
