Step 1: Blot Stain

The first step is to gently blot away any excess barbecue sauce from surface of your sweater. Use a white towel, paper towels, or paper napkins to blot your stain. Make sure cloth is not too wet so that you don’t spread the stain further into the fabric.

Step 2: Pretreat with Detergent

Next, pretreat the stain with detergent. If the stain is on a colored fabric, use a stain remover specifically made for colors. If the stain is on a white fabric, use a bleach-based laundry detergent. Make sure the detergent does not have added bleach, as this can damage the fabric.

Step 3: Wash in Hot Water

Put the stained clothing item into the washing machine and wash as normal using hot water. If the stain is still there after washing, repeat the steps above until it is removed.

Step 4: Dry and Inspect

Once you’ve finished washing the garment, put it into the dryer. Ironing can also help to set stain. Finally, inspect stained area and if necessary, repeat the process until all of the stain is gone.
