Our favorite summertime activity is grilling delicious meals with friends and family. But BBQ sauce can be tricky for a few reasons – it’s sticky and staining, two issues that become even more complicated when sauce lands on our socks. How do we get rid of those stubborn stains? As soon as you notice the stain, place the sock in cold water. This will help to prevent the BBQ sauce from setting into the fabric.
Pour laundry detergent directly onto stain and rub it in until the area is covered. Allow the detergent to penetrate fabric for 10 minutes, then rinse sock with cold water. The stain should be visibly reduced.
If the stain is still visible, pour vinegar onto a clean cloth and dab the stained area. If possible, put the sock outside in the sun so the vinegar can be activated by UV rays. After about 15 minutes, rinse the sock with cold water, then launder with regular detergent.
If the stain is still present (but lighter), apply white vinegar to the area and use a toothbrush to scrub stain. Rinse the sock with cold water, then launder as normal.
It may take a few rounds of pre-treating, soaking, and laundering to get BBQ sauce stains out of your socks. With patience and proper supplies, you should be able to get rid of the stains in no time!
