The first step to removing barbecue sauce stains is to act quickly. The sooner you start treating the stain, the better your chances of getting it out. Start by wiping away the excess sauce with a paper towel or cloth. Be sure not to rub as this may cause the stain to spread.
If the stain has had some time to set in, you may need to pre-treat it before washing. To do so, apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly onto stain. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric and then allow it to sit for a few minutes.
Once you have pre-treated the stain, it is time to wash your sneakers. Fill your sink or washtub with cold water and add a few drops of laundry detergent. Place your sneakers into the bath and let them soak for about 15 minutes. Use a soft brush or sponge to break up the stain, and then rinse the sneaker in cold water.
After rinsing, you can dry the sneakers however you like as long as you do not put them in dryer. To speed up process, you can wrap the sneakers in a clean towel and press firmly to absorb the excess water. Once they are dry, you should check to make sure that the stain is gone.
In some cases, the stain may still be visible after washing. If this is case, you may need to use a specialized stain remover like bleach or vinegar. Apply a small amount of the product directly onto the stain and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse away the remover thoroughly and then check to see if the stain is gone.
Cleaning barbecue sauce stains from sneakers is a tricky process, but with the right tools and a little patience, you can get those pesky stains out. Now you can kick back, relax, and enjoy your favorite dishes without worrying about staining your shoes.
