Step 1: Scrape Off Excess Sauce

Start by scraping off any excess BBQ sauce from the fabric. Use a blunt butter knife or spoon to gently loosen any clumps of sauce. Do not use sharp silverware, as this could tear or damage material. Once all the excess sauce is removed, discard it.

Step 2: Soak the Skirt in Cold Water

Fill a sink or large basin with cold water. Submerge stained area of the skirt into the water and let it sit for 30 minutes. This will help to break down the BBQ sauce and facilitate easier removal. After 30 minutes, check the stain to see if it has lightened.

Step 3: Pre-Treat the Fabric

If the stain is still visible, apply a pre-treatment agent such as dish soap or laundry detergent directly onto the spot. Gently rub the product into the stain using your fingertips. Allow the cleaner to sit on the fabric for 15 minutes, then rinse it with cold water.

Step 4: Wash with Detergent

Using the hottest temperature that is safe for the fabric, launder the stained skirt in the washing machine. Add a generous scoop of laundry detergent and let the cycle run its course. After wash is finished, inspect the stain to see if it has been completely removed.

Step 5: Repeat Steps If Necessary

If stain is still visible, repeat steps 2 through 4 until it is gone. When the stain is completely removed, hang the skirt up to air dry. Do not put the garment in the dryer before making sure stain is completely gone, as the heat will set stain and make it more difficult to remove.
