Before you begin cleaning, make sure that the stain is dry. If it is still wet, use a clean cloth to blot the area until it is just moist. Blotting the area before attempting to clean it will lessen the chances of the stain spreading further into the fabric.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl. Use a clean cloth to dip it into the solution and apply it on the stained area. Make sure to dab — rather than rub — the area. Dabbing will help keep the stain from spreading or becoming more set in the fabric.
Once the vinegar solution has been applied, then it's time to begin washing the fabric. Use your mild laundry detergent and follow the instructions on the package. Rinse area several times to make sure the soap is completely removed. Hang the item up or lay it flat to dry.
Sometimes a stubborn stain may need to be tackled more than once to remove it completely. If stain is still present after washing, create another vinegar solution and dab it onto the area once more. You may also want to sprinkle some salt onto the wet area and leave it to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing off.
