The first thing to do is to pre-treat the stain. To do this, dampen the stained area of your shorts with lukewarm water. Then, apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly to the stained area. Rub the detergent in gently with your fingers or a soft cloth, making sure to cover the entire stain. Let the detergent sit on the shorts for 10 minutes.
While detergent is still on the shorts, fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add 1 cup of white vinegar. Soak the shorts in the vinegar water for 10 to 15 minutes. The acidity in the vinegar will help to break down the BBQ sauce residue, making it easier to remove.
Once the shorts have soaked for 10 to 15 minutes, take them out of the vinegar solution and rinse with cool water. Make sure to rinse the shorts until all of detergent and vinegar solution has been rinsed away. Launder the shorts as usual, either in a washing machine or by hand.
After laundering the shorts, check to make sure that the stain has been removed. If it has not, repeat steps 1 through 3 until the stain is gone. Remember to always wash the shorts in cool or lukewarm water, as hot water may actually set the stain.
Cleaning BBQ sauce stains from shorts can seem like an intimidating task, but it doesn't have to be. By following these simple steps, you can remove BBQ sauce stains from clothing with ease. Until next time, bon appétit!
