The key to successfully removing BBQ sauce stains is acting quickly. The longer the stain sits, harder it will be to get out. As soon as possible, immediately remove any excess sauce by scraping or blotting it away with a dry cloth. Do not rub or scrub stain, as that will only set it even deeper into the fabric.
For an effective cleaning solution, mix ¼ cup of ammonia, 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid, and ½ gallon of warm water. Place a towel or cloth underneath the stained article of clothing and use a sponge or cloth to apply the solution to the stain.
Once the ammonia solution has been applied, place the garment in the washing machine with like colors and a mild detergent. After that, rinse the garment in cold water and dry the garment as usual. If the stain is still visible after drying, repeat steps two and three. For best results, take the garment to a professional dry cleaner instead.
