As soon as you notice BBQ sauce stain, rinse affected area with cold water. This not only prevents the stain from setting in, but it also removes part of residue that can then be tackled using a cleaning agent.
Choose a proper stain remover according to the material of your shirt and apply it to the BBQ sauce spot. If you don’t have a commercial stain remover at home, you can make one by mixing a teaspoon of washing up liquid with half a cup of warm water. Apply mixture directly onto the stain and leave it to sit for up to 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.
Pop the shirt into the washing machine and run a regular cycle at the lowest possible temperature. Make sure to check the label for manufacturer’s instructions regarding the best washing settings. If the BBQ sauce stain is still present after washing cycle, pre-treat the spot again and re-wash the shirt on a higher temperature.
Allow the freshly washed shirt to dry naturally in the sun. Sunlight helps remove the remaining BBQ sauce stains, restoring the original look of the material.
