Barbecue sauce stains can be a tricky foe, but they’re no match for some hard work and right cleaning supplies. Whether your poncho is made of cotton, nylon, or something else, you can get it looking as good as new in just a few simple steps.
The first step in removing barbecue sauce from your poncho is pretreating the stain. To do so, apply a laundry prewash with an enzymatic detergent directly onto the affected area. This will help to break down the stain before you tackle it with a wash cycle.
Once you’ve pre-treated the stain, you can move on to washing the poncho. Set your washing machine to the appropriate settings (check care instructions on your garment) and use a gentle laundry detergent that’s free of dyes and perfumes. If the stain is particularly stubborn, add 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to wash cycle to help break down the stain.
Before drying the poncho, check it for any remaining stain. If any remains, it’s best to reapply the prewash and repeat the wash cycle.
Once you’re satisfied that the stain is gone, you can dry the poncho. Set your dryer to the appropriate settings, and if your garment is prone to wrinkling, use a low-heat setting.
By following these four steps, you can restore the look of your poncho and leave it free of barbecue sauce stains!
