Step 1: Blot Stain with Soap and Water

The first step in getting rid of a barbecue sauce stain is to blot it with soapy water. Use a clean cloth soaked with soapy water to gently dab the stained area. This should help to lift some of the excess sauce from the fabric. Be sure to only dab—don’t rub or scrub, as this can cause the stain to spread or become set in.

Step 2: Apply Distilled White Vinegar

Once any excess sauce is removed, apply distilled white vinegar to the stained area. Pour a small amount of vinegar directly onto the stain, then use a clean cloth to gently work it into the fabric. This will help to break down the stain, making it easier to remove.

Step 3: Machine Wash with Detergent

Finally, once vinegar has been applied, put the stained garment in machine with your usual detergent. Select a normal cycle and wash as usual. Once the cycle is complete, inspect the garment for any remaining stain. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps 1-3 until it is gone.
