Use an absorbent cloth or paper towel to blot up the excess barbecue sauce. Use caution not to spread stain further as you do this; instead, concentrate on gently blotting up as much of the sauce as possible. Once you have removed as much of the sauce as you can, rinse the area with cold water. Pat the area dry with another clean cloth.
Select an appropriate cleaning solution depending on the type of material that is stained. For synthetic fabrics, try using a mild laundry detergent or commercial cleaner. For leather furniture, use a specialized leather cleaner. On wood or plastic furniture, use a mix of white vinegar and warm water. For more delicate materials, such as canvas or vinyl, a mild dish soap and water solution will usually suffice.
Carefully apply your chosen cleaning solution to the stained area. Gently scrub the area with a soft brush or cloth in a circular motion. Do not press too hard, as this can lead to further staining. Keep scrubbing until the stain has lifted and then rinse the area with cold water.
Once area is clean, pat it with a soft cloth or allow it to air dry. Make sure not to let the area stay wet for too long, as this can lead to further staining.
