Before you do anything else, use a paper towel or cloth to blot up as much of the barbecue sauce as possible. You want to work from the outside in, so start by gently pressing down on the area right around the stain in order to soak up as much of the sauce as you can. Don’t rub or scrub the stain, as this will only drive it deeper into fabric.
Make a solution of one teaspoon of liquid detergent and two cups of cold water. Dip a clean paper towel or cloth into the solution and then apply it to the stain from the outside in. Let the solution sit for 15 minutes before blotting it again with a dry cloth.
Rinse the area with cold water, making sure not to scrub or rub the stain. Once you’ve finished rinsing, pat the area dry with a paper towel or cloth.
Once you’ve removed as much of stain as possible, wash item in cold water according to the care instructions on tag. If there is still a visible stain after washing, repeat steps 1-3.
