Most Macramé is made from cotton or a combination of cotton and other fibers, and as such requires special care when it comes to removing barbecue sauce stains. Before trying any cleaning methods, test them first on an inconspicuous part of the macramé first. Follow these steps to efficiently clean the stained area:

  • Gently blot the stain with a paper towel or cloth soaked in cool water.
  • Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar and one teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent in one quart of warm water.
  • Using a soft cloth or sponge, dab the solution onto the stained area, taking care not to cause damage to macramé.
  • Rinse the stained area with cool water and gently blot dry with a cloth.
  • Repeat process until the stain has been removed.

If the stain persists, mix together 1/4 teaspoon of non-bleach laundry detergent and two cups of warm water. Use a damp cloth to apply the solution directly to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then rinse the area with cool water and gently blot dry with a cloth.

Be patient when cleaning barbecue sauce stains from macramé – don’t rush the process! With enough time and care, you can restore your lovely pieces to their original beauty.
