Before you begin cleaning, make sure to manually remove any excess barbecue sauce from the leather surface. Blot stain with a paper towel or cotton cloth and gently scrape away as much of stain as possible using a plastic spoon.
Once you’ve prepared the area, apply a leather cleaner or white vinegar and water solution to a clean cloth and dab at the stain, working from the outside in. Make sure not to scrub or rub too hard, as this can cause damage to the leather. Repeat this process until the stain has been lifted.
Once you’ve cleaned the stained area, you’ll want to waterproof it to prevent future stains. Apply a leather sealant or waterproofing spray according to manufacturer’s instructions and allow to dry completely before touching or using the leather.
Finally, if any odors remain after cleaning the stain, place a few drops of essential oil onto a cotton ball and place it near the stained area. Leave overnight and then remove the cotton ball and vacuum up any residue. The odor should be gone.
