Steps to Remove Barbecue Sauce Stains
- Rinse the stain in cold water as soon as possible. This will help to stop the color from penetrating deeper into the fabric.
- Prepare a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and warm water and dab it onto the stain with a cotton ball or soft cloth.
- Continue dabbing until the stain has been completely absorbed.
- Apply dishwashing detergent directly onto the stained area and lightly scrub with a soft-bristled brush.
- Once the stain has been lifted, continue to rinse with cold water.
- If there is still a slight discoloration left after rinsing, try soaking the garment in a mixture of one part baking soda and two parts hot water for up to 30 minutes.
- Finally, launder the article as you usually would and check for any remaining stain before placing in the dryer.
Other Solutions to Try
- Hydrogen peroxide: mix one part hydrogen peroxide to two parts of warm water and apply directly to the stained area. Rinse and launder as usual.
- Ammonia diluted in cold water: mix one teaspoon of clear household ammonia into one cup of cool water. Dab this solution onto the stain and rinse with cool water. Launder as usual.
- Lemon juice: apply lemon juice to the stain and let sit for up to 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water prior to laundering.
