When faced with a barbecue sauce stain, it's best to tackle it as soon as possible. Prompt treatment will give your clothing best chance at coming out of the ordeal unscathed.
Using an enzyme-based detergent, apply a pre-treatment directly to the stained area and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that, use a damp cloth to blot any excess detergent off of the area.
Once pre-treated, place the item in a bowl of cool water and let it soak for 30 minutes. This will allow enzymes to break down barbecue sauce proteins and make them easier to remove.
After soaking, launder the item with an enzyme-based detergent in the hottest water temperature recommended on the clothing care label. Be sure to add a chlorine bleach if the label allows for it (avoid non-chlorine bleach as this will not be effective for removing stains).
Once the item is washed, air-dry it and check over the area for any remaining stains. If there are still traces of the stain, repeat steps 2-4 for more effective removal.
With these steps, you should have no trouble getting barbecue sauce stains out of your J Crew clothing. Just remember to act fast and follow the instructions properly for best results.
