Irish crochet is a beautiful, intricate form of lace-making that’s been a popular form of handicraft for centuries. From jackets to skirts and even lampshades, Irish crochet can be used to make unforgettable works of art—but all of those projects can be quickly ruined by stubborn BBQ sauce stains. Here are some tips to help you remove these unsightly blemishes from your crochet.
Mix a bit of laundry detergent directly with the stain before beginning any cleaning process. Work the detergent into the fabric with your fingers or a soft cloth, then leave it for about 10 minutes. This will help break up sauce and make it much easier to remove.
Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of glycerin or hydrogen peroxide, if available. Place the stained fabric in the bowl and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. The glycerin or hydrogen peroxide will help break down the stain even more.
Once fabric has soaked, rinse it under warm running water. Then, lay it flat on a clean towel and gently pat the fabric dry. Be careful not to rub the fabric too hard —it might be delicate. Once dry, hang your Irish crochet in a well-ventilated area to finish air-drying.
Once your Irish crochet is back to its former glory, check the results one last time to make sure BBQ sauce stain is gone. If it’s still there, repeat cleaning process until it’s gone.
