Start by pre-treating the stained area with a laundry detergent, such as Tide laundry detergent. Apply the detergent directly to the stained area and gently work it into the fabric of your headband using a soft cloth. Allow detergent to sit on your headband for five minutes before moving on to the next step.
Cover the stained area with a cloth and use a hot iron to apply heat to the stained area. This should help lift the BBQ sauce stain from the fabric fibers. Move the iron around in a circular motion to ensure that all areas of the stain get equal heat.
Next, fill a bucket with warm water and add a few drops of bleach. Submerge headband in solution, making sure that the stained area is completely submerged. Allow headband to soak for 30 minutes then remove it from the water.
Soak up any excess water from the headband and lay it down on a flat surface. Apply a small amount of laundry detergent to the stained area. Use a soft brush to massage detergent into fibers of the fabric. Allow the detergent to stand for a few minutes.
Rinse the headband thoroughly with cold water then place it in the washing machine. Wash the headband on a regular cycle with cold water and set the machine on gentle. When the washing cycle is complete, remove the headband from the machine and hang it up or lay it flat to dry.
Finally, inspect the headband after it’s dried for any remaining BBQ sauce stains. If any traces of stain are still visible, repeat the cleaning process until headband is fully cleaned and free from BBQ sauce stain.
