Barbecue season is in full swing, and you know that means getting your grill ready for summer barbecues. Unfortunately, this also means scrubbing burns, rancid grease, rust spots, and those pesky barbecue sauce stains. Luckily, cleaning your grill doesn't have to be a grueling task. Here’s how to bring your grill back to its original glory.

Step 1: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

First things first, you need to gather all the tools you’ll need to tackle the cleaning job. Grab your BBQ brush, liquid dish soap, baking soda, and a vinegar-based cleaner (if needed). Don’t forget to collect two rags - one damp to clean, and one dry to wipe the surface afterward.

Step 2: Preheat the Grill

Gently turn on the grill and preheat it to 250°F, then let it warm for about fifteen minutes. This process will start breaking down the stuck-on debris, making it easier to clean. As an added bonus, preheating the grill will also reduce the likelihood of smoke or chemical residue.

Step 3: Scrub, Scrub, Scrub

Once preheated, it’s time to get your hands dirty. Starting from the top, use your BBQ brush to scrub away any burned bits of food or grime. Be sure to scour all of the sides, and don’t forget the bottom. If there are especially stubborn areas, use a combination of liquid dish soap and baking soda to lift the stuck-on mess.

Step 4: Rinse and Wipe Down

Once you’ve gone over all the angles, grab your hose and rinse the entire grill. If you want to use a vinegar-based cleaner, spray it on the warm grates and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing it off. After rinsing the grates, use the damp rag to go over entire grill and wipe it down. Finish off by drying the surface with a dry rag.

Step 5: Reassemble and Get Grillin'

You’re almost done! Now it’s time to put everything back together and turn your grill into the beautiful appliance it always was. Once you’ve secured all the grates and covers, you can light up the grill and get back to business.

Cleaning your grill doesn’t have to be a drag. With some time and effort, you can make your grill shine like the day you bought it. Try out tips we provided and watch your BBQ sauce stains disappear!
