What You'll Need

  • A sponge
  • Mild detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Olive oil
  • Clean cloths

Instructions

  1. Check the label. First, check the label on the double georgette fabric to make sure it's washable. If it's dry-clean only, you might want to take it to the cleaners for stain removal.
  2. Scrub the area. Using a damp sponge, rub the stained area gently until the stain begins to lift. Don't be too vigorous, as double georgette is a delicate fabric and could tear easily.
  3. Apply detergent. Create a mix of warm water and a mild detergent and apply it to stained area. Let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing the stain with your damp sponge.
  4. Soak with vinegar. Create a mix of one part white vinegar and two parts warm water and pour it over the stained area. Let it soak for about 15 minutes.
  5. Blot with oil. Rub a few drops of olive oil onto the stained area and then use a clean cloth to gently blot the area. This will help further loosen the stain.
  6. Rinse with cold water. Rinse the area with cold water to remove any remaining detergent, vinegar, and oil residue.
  7. Treat with soap. Rub a small amount of mild soap onto the stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then rinse the area with cold water.
  8. Let the fabric air-dry. Once you've rinsed the fabric, carefully hang it up to air-dry. You might want to put a towel underneath garment to absorb any excess moisture.

Tips

  • If possible, treat stain as soon as you can after it occurs.
  • Be gentle when scrubbing the fabric, as double georgette can tear easily.
  • Test the detergent and white vinegar mixture on a hidden area of the fabric to make sure it won't cause discoloration before using it on the stained area.
  • Don't use hot water, as this could make the stain worse.
